about

Dust Bowl Fearies are an all lady trio who play songs from the XMALIA album as well as other music from the Ryder repertoire. Ryder & Hazel play accordion, uke & singing saw, Karen Cole plays lapsteel & drum, Sara Ayers plays keyboard.

XMALIA is a collection of songs, and an illustrated book,
based on a musical performance about extinction created by Ryder Cooley in 2011-2012, now performed by the Dust Bowl Faeries, a band composed of Ryder & Hazel with Sara Ayers & Karen Cole

"The huanting performance was part concert, part
theater, part dance, part opera and part circus,
incorporating video, taxidermy, trapeze and other
aerial work as Cooley sang a song-cycle that conjured
up a half-dozen animals that have disappeared from
the planet over the past three hundred years."
Greg Haymes, Nippertown
