about

XMALIA is a collection of songs about extinct animals, accompanied by an illustrated book. The project began as a musical performance, which was performed at venues across the US. The XMALIA songs continue to be performed by Ryder, Hazel & the Dust Bowl Faeries.

"The huanting performance was part concert, part
theater, part dance, part opera and part circus,
incorporating video, taxidermy, trapeze and other
aerial work as Cooley sang a song-cycle that conjured
up a half-dozen animals that have disappeared from
the planet over the past three hundred years."
Greg Haymes, Nippertown

Dust Bowl Fearies are an all lady gothic folk trio, Hazel is a taxidermy ram who Ryder performs and collaborates with.
